This is MINC – the Modular Instrument Computer; a special PDP-11 system with modules for analog and digital I\/O and timing for use in a laboratory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under this page (see the menu on the left) I’m collecting information on the MINC hardware and software. All of it is very much a work in progress, let me know if you have questions, remarks, or corrections! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

MINC Documentation<\/strong>
MINC came with a nice set of eight user-level manuals – including an overview of the hardware, and how a user can connect those to other equipment. These can be found via:https:\/\/electrickery.hosting.philpem.me.uk\/comp\/minc\/index.html<\/a> (look for the link ‘Scanned and PDFed doc’).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next to that, Bitsavers has a few manuals about the additional Fortran packages that were available – I haven’t really looked at those yet, other than a quick check if there was any directly useful information about the hardware in them. These are at http:\/\/bitsavers.org\/pdf\/dec\/pdp11\/minc\/<\/a> , But that same directory also has the schematics – the file MP00652_MNC11_Schematics_Jul78.pdf is the best scan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bitsavers also has diagnostics module listings. When I started work on MINC, only the X11 modules were available, but now we also have the much more elaborate standalone tests. Look for VMNA through VMNG in the directory https:\/\/bitsavers.org\/pdf\/dec\/pdp11\/microfiche\/Diagnostic_Program_Listings\/Listings\/<\/a> .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MINC Software<\/strong>
MINC software is also pretty difficult to find. There is an older version of the sofware here: http:\/\/bitsavers.org\/bits\/DEC\/pdp11\/floppyimages\/minc\/rx02\/<\/a> ; these are floppy disk images that can be converted to an RK05 image to use with PDP2011; see the page under the HOWTO section for documentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also on Bitsavers there is a later “V3” version set here: https:\/\/bitsavers.org\/bits\/DEC\/pdp11\/minc\/MINC_MA_RXRL_V3.0_RX2_1982\/<\/a> ; these floppy images can be converted to an RL02 image to use with PDP2011; see the Nov 24, 2024 blog post for documentation.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
