In Memoriam: Jan Secker

I have been informed by his family that Jan Secker, longtime contributor to PDP2011, passed away on the 10th of October, after a brief illness.

Over the years, Jan has had a great influence on PDP2011. It was he who came up with the idea to port the project to the CYC1000 board – creating the smallest ever PDP-11 system, and paving the way for an elegant solution to physically integrate PDP2011 into the PiDP11 console. After that, his search to add A/D devices inspired to implement the MINC, for which he also did a lot of research and debugging to help understand the inner workings of the software. And most recently, he contributed the logic for the GPIB interface. I will miss his enthusiasm, his creative ideas, but maybe most of all the unexpected messages when he had found another bit of information in an unlikely place, or a piece of old test equipment to try the GPIB core on.

He leaves behind his wife and son, and his twin brother.
